Sauce Piquante
Pronounced Sauce Pe-kawnt....this is one of those recipes that has been passed down from my Mom with zero measurements. It's a cajun stew of sorts with lots of delicious chicken, sausage, onion, bell pepper, tomatoes, etc. It's truly amazing and can be kept mild or kicked up several scoville units to your liking. I knew the process and ingredients but as for "measuring", I never got around to it. That is until my brother asked for the recipe for a work function competition

Why We Choose To Homeschool
The decision did not start with a dramatic moment. There was no single "reason" per se. There was a strong desire to do something different than I had done with my two older children. A desire to want to give our youngest son an opportunity to learn in a less restrictive or conforming way. We noticed small things. Our son had questions that didn't fit neatly into the time left before dinner. He could spend an hour studying an insect on the sidewalk, he loved stories, hands-

The Amazing Adventures of Hank
It all happened by accident.....mostly! We were planning a visit to the east coast for my husband's Marine Corps reunion and were scheduled to stay at a friends house along the way. She sent me a picture of the cutest and tiniest KuneKune pig and asked if we might want to take him home. At first I said said NO WAY! I mentioned that my husband would not be okay with a 200 pound pet pig running around the yard (that was how big he would get when he was full grown). But aft

Maw Maw Ambrose's Christmas Cookies
This recipe is one of those that I can still smell and taste when I close my eyes and think back to being in my grandparents house. It could have been lost forever if I hadn't had the forethought to call my grandma and ask for it right after Thanksgiving in 2014. Right on time, as Maw Maw usually was, on December 11th, 2014, it arrived. Handwritten and on a Dixie Blueprinting Services "Things to do today" piece of notepad paper. I still have the stamped envelope and all!

The Best Laid Plans
My husband and I both attended public and/or private schools growing up. I absolutely loved school; the smell of books, the sound of the bell signaling changing of classrooms, improving my penmanship, reading new literature and cramming for tests. I'm weird, I know! So when we had our son the topic of school came up by the time he was at least 2. My mother-in-law lives next to us and watches our son while I work full time. She was persistent that he should be homeschooled

New Beginnings
At no point in my life did I imagine moving from the heat and humidity of the south to Wyoming! Do I like 99 degree heat with 100 percent humidity? Absolutely not! But, I did enjoy putting a seed in the ground and 9 times out of 10 it grew. Not here, oh no! Mother Nature and the soil are not at all conducive to growing much of anything out here unless you have a greenhouse. But the views....oh the glorious views! And the wildlife and vast open spaces and blue skies and

For Jams and Ribbons
Thinking back on my childhood, no book or movie was quite as memorable as Charlotte’s Web. To this very day if you were to ask me what the best book ever written was, I would say, after the Bible, it would be Charlotte's Web. My parents even allowed me to have a baby pig named Sugar who tragically died of low blood sugar not long after I got her....ironic really. My Wilbur dreams were dashed for several decades but just like many of you, there are very special parts of our
